ISHAM (Isom) FARMER

Isham R. Farmer died at. his home on south Green street, at 1 o'clock Saturday after a short illness from quick consumption. The deceased was born in North Carolina in 1839, and when the Civil War broke out was a resident of Waveland, from where he visited Lafayette and enlisted in Company H. of the 40th Regiment,Indiana Volunteers, under Col. Wm. C. Wilson. He was mustered into the service of the United States October 6, 1862. Having served his time, he, together with the majority of the 40th re-enlisted as veterans and served until October 20, 1865 when he was honorably discharged. He engaged with the Regiment in all the many battles and skirmishes in which it gallantly took part during the war, notably the two battles of Stone River, Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain, Chattahoochee, Peach Tree Creek and Nashville. Mr. Farmer was 51 years of age and leaves six children to mourn, two sons and four daughters. Hi wife died about, four months ago. He got hurt at the planing mill sometime ago, which accident disabled him for several weeks. This together with other troubles and predisposition to lung disease caused him to take down with the illness which rapidly carried him to death. He was a carpenter and joiner by trade and a most excellent workman. He was an enthusiastic Grand Army man. and good citizen. The funeral took place on last Sunday at. 2:30 o'clock from the house, Interment at Oak Hill. - thanks to Kim H for this obit :)
